Situated in the department of Chimaltenango, Palestina lies on skirts of both the Acatenango and Fuego volcanoes. This means that there is an abundance of incredible soil conditions, weather patterns and elevation, a perfect environment for growing amazing coffee with refined acidity.
This will be the third year that we are working with Joel Perez and his amazing family of coffee producers. We had the opportunity this past February of 2017 to visit Palestina. It is a rare opportunity to meet a producer who takes so much pride and has such passion for their product. Joel is committed to using the more modern techniques for growing coffee, tempered with traditional methods that ensure quality and sustainability.
The Perez family, including Joel’s close relatives, have owned and operated coffee farms in the Acatenango region for generations. They were instrumental in achieving the designation of Acatenango as an officially recognized coffee growing region in Guatemala which released funds to build a paved road from the main highway into the very remote farming areas. The family is also committed to paying their workers above and beyond the normal wages they may receive working elsewhere.
We are very proud of this coffee and cannot wait to share it with you. We look forward to continuing to work with Joel Perez and his family in the beautiful Acatenango region.
